8th International Phosphorus Workshop (IPW8) in Rostock (Germany)

PHOSPHORUS 2020 — CHALLENGES FOR SYNTHESIS, AGRICULTURE AND ECOSYSTEMS

When: 12 - 16 September 2016

Where: Rostock (Germany)

hosted by the The Leibniz ScienceCampus Phosphorus Research Rostock

Event website: http://www.sciencecampus-rostock.de/ipw8-home.html

Phosphorus (P) is of vital importance for all life on Earth. It is a major component in animal feed and plant fertilizers but, when present in excess, also a disruptive element in freshwater and marine water bodies. Today, limitations in global mineral P resources have strengthened the demand for efficient alternative P sources and for P-recycling technologies. The International Phosphorus Workshops (IPWs) are well-known for presenting the latest results of research into agricultural and environmental P cycles as well as new methods of P analysis. Recently, environmental problems arising from P surplus on the one hand side and the implications for food production posed by P deficiencies on the other have made fair and sustainable P distribution a societal challenge. Therefore, at the IPW8, P governance will be an important focus. In addition, given the research interests of the hosting Leibniz-ScienceCampus, the role of P in catalytic reactions and technical applications will debut as a workshop topic. Other topics, addressing subjects ranging from the atomic/molecular to the societal, are guaranteed to stimulate interesting and productive transdisciplinary discussions covered by the IPW8. The themes of the workshop are:

• Phosphorus cycles and fluxes in the environment

• Sufficiency and efficiency of phosphorus utilization

• Phosphorus recycling: technologies and product applications

• Syntheses of and with phosphorus- containing compounds

• The development of advanced phosphorus analysis methods

• From knowledge to action: phosphorus-related issues in politics and society

DPP FORUM 2015 - Einsatz von Sekundärphosphaten - Stand der Technik?

When?

30 Oct 2015

Where?

2nd European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference - online registration launched

Following the successful first edition of the ESPC (European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference) in Brussels in 2013, and the launch of the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform, Berlin this March will be the stage for ESPC2. Leading experts and decision makers in the field of phosphorus management will come together to exchange knowledge and experiences and take action. Join us for two days of inspiration and motivation in taking P to the next level!

The conference will showcase phosphorus management success stories and business cases, with presentations and parallel sessions covering the themes below, and working round-tables to enable participants to meet and discuss joint actions and projects.

Main topics

  • EU policies on phosphorus management:
  • follow-up of the inclusion of phosphate rock on the EU Critical Raw Materials list and the European Commission Communication on Sustainable Phosphorus use in the environment: chances for reducing phosphorus losses & valorizing phosphorus materials from waste (water) in the agro and chemical industry.
  • Agricultural phosphorus efficiency and sustainable intensification
  • P from farm to fork: Phosphorus sustainability and innovation in the agricultural market and the food industry
  • Phosphorus, global food security, geopolitical dependencies, planetary boundaries
  • Regions implementing sustainable phosphorus management
  • The need for societal change, and how to achieve it
